British Cycling
...the internationally recognised governing body for cycling in Great Britain... Not much more to say that really!
Cambridge Cycling Campaign
Cambridge Cycling Campaign was formed in 1995 to provide a voice for cyclists in our area. We aren't a cycling club, but an organisation of volunteers campaigning for the rights of cyclists and promoting cycling in and around Cambridge. We lobby for better and more convenient conditions for cycling, safer roads, and more people on bikes.
Critical Mass
I've never known any group be quite as evasive as this, they say, 'The ".org" domain notwithstanding, Critical Mass is not an organization, it's an unorganised coincidence. It's a movement ... of bicycles, in the streets.' 'Accordingly, this isn't the official Critical Mass web page, because there is no official Critical Mass web page. There are, however, a bunch of unofficial web pages.' All you can do is check it out yourselves, I can say there seems to be a Critical Mass 'happening' in most Countries in Europe and many cities in the USA. If anyone has experience good or otherwise please let me know.
Cycle Campaign Network
The Cycle Campaign Network, 'does exactly what it says on the tin'. They have links to campaigning cycling groups all over the UK. Don't be put off by a first glance at the map on their home page. There aren't nine groups, there are nine regions - loads of groups in each region.
Cyclists Touring Club (CTC)
The CTC are the country’s largest group of people on bikes. Their mission is ‘to make cycling enjoyable, safe and welcoming for all.’ They go on to say, 'Our work, which includes high-profile campaigning on behalf of all cyclists, is made possible by your help and support. So why not join 70,000 people united by a passion for cycling and become part of the UK's largest and oldest cycling organisation?'
Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign
"The Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign is a voluntary group working to make cycling in Greater Manchester quicker, safer, easier and more enjoyable. The group wants more people to use bicycles - or other kinds of human powered vehicle - for transport and leisure. And it represents and empowers people who do this."
Kingcommute
The introduction to Kingcommute says, 'Kingcommute.org was created after we lost track of the number of times people said to us “Id love to cycle more but roads are just too dangerous”. As daily commuters, we recognise that it is quite daunting to start cycling in Britain. In reality cycling isn't as dangerous as it might at first appear, by learning a few simple tips you can greatly improve you safety and confidence whilst cycling in urban areas. Life Cycle UK
Life Cycle UK is a cycling promotion charity, they say -'Life Cycle UK's vision is of healthy individuals, inclusive communities and an unspoilt natural environment. We work towards these goals by promoting a form of travel that is simple, affordable and equitable - the bicycle!' You can't say fairer than that.
London Cycling Campaign (LCC)
LCC's vision is simple it is 'to make London a world-class cycling city.' and so say all of us!

National Cycling Strategy
Did you even know we had one? .... mmm.. maybe that's half the problem! They say. 'The National Cycling Strategy (NCS) was launched in July 1996. It aims to establish a culture favourable to the increased use of bicycles for all age groups; to develop sound policies and good practice; and seek out effective and innovative means of fostering accessibility by bike.' Maybe they ought to give this job to the good folks at Sustrans and get rid of this lot.
Sustrans
Sustrans is a charity that works on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport. They are the moving force behind the national cycle network and have made a huge difference to cycling in the UK. If there's a cycle route near your home the odds are Sustrans had something to do with it. If you're at all interested in the promotion of cycling in the UK give these guys your support.

A to B Magazine
Founded in August 1997, a progression from 'The Folder' the newsletter of the Folding Society, A to B Magazine describe themselves as follows - 'to explore new ways of travelling from point A to point B. Naturally, as the most efficient transport integrator, the folding bicycle continues to feature strongly in the magazine, but we also cover electric bikes, bike trailers and public transport.' As a new owner of a Brompton (2004) folding bike I've been looking at this site with renewed interest.
The Bike Show
The bike show is a weekly radio show about cycling. It is broadcast London's experimental art radio station Resonance 104.4fm. Through the podcast it reaches listeners all around the world. Voted the Best Cycling Media Initiative: Jack Thurston and The Bike Show on Resonance 104.4 FM in the London Cycling Awards 2005 ‘The UK’s only radio show devoted to the miracle of the bicycle and the transcendental pleasures of cycling’. One devoted listener writes: ‘The Bike show is a very welcome addition to London’s cycle culture that has a loyal following and does its own quirky bit to get people on bikes’.

The UK's national celebration of cycling - checkout what's happening in your area and get on those two wheels.
Bath to Bristol Cycle Path Photo Tour
This is site is fantastic there is no other word for it. Paul has created a virtual cycle ride from Bath to Bristol in 64 photographs showing you every twist and turn of this glorious off-road route. Congratulations Paul - now when are you going to do the same for the end to end? I was so inspired I did the route myself, it's a really enjoyable ride.
Bristol Trails Group
The Bristol Trails Group was set up in October 2004 to organise repairs to the local mountain bike trails and liaise with the authorities responsible for the land the trails are on.
Brompton Bicycles
It's great to have a world beating product designed and manufactured in the UK. The Brompton is heralded by all independent reviewers to be the best folding bike available. Particularly good is the photo pages with pictures of Bromptons being used all over the world - including the South Pole!
Brompton Recumbent Conversion - link updated
These guys have taken the standard Brompton and developed a recumbent conversion kit - on the photos it looks really good. The great thing is it requires no welding or drilling into the frame. All the parts are clamped on so if you want to convert back Bob's your Uncle! Their website says, 'The Brompton is the most successful folding bike of recent years. We took this most versatile and widespread folder and developed a kit to convert it into a recumbent. After two years of work to optimise the conversion kit, it was present in 1998 at IFMA in Cologne.' They have distributors in Germany, Holland, UK and the USA.
Cycles Maximus

The Folding Society
The Folding Society exists for the owners of ALL folding and separable cycles and related equipment. The Society basically provides a forum for the exchange of information and views between people with similar interests.
Moving Target zine
The online magazine of UK cycle couriers written by Buffalo Bill a long time courier and great cycle advocate. Many courier related but lots of interest to all cyclists in the UK and elsewhere.

Re-cycle.org
What a fantastic idea this is! 'Re~Cycle's mission is to collect and ship second hand bicycles and parts to Africa. Local partners teach local people the skills of how to repair and maintain them, to improve their lives in a sustainable manner.' They also have downloadable plans to build your own trailer from old cycle parts! click here for the link.
Singletrack Magazine
This is probably the only MTB magazine intended for the 'adult' off-road cyclist. The photography is great, the articles are interesting and of a good length. Certainly one of the best written cycling magazines currently available. It used to only be available on subscription or from cycle shops but is now available in larger newsagents.
The Bike Station
The Bike Station is a community project that accepts donated bikes from members of the public and recycles them for use by priority groups of people such as the long term unemployed, those who have been homeless and those with mental health problems. A proportion of renovated bikes are sold to raise funds. In addition we work with schools, groups and individuals to encourage more people to cycle - more often.
Tour of Britain
The Tour of Britain has had a difficult life, gone are the glory days of the Milk Race and we thought never to be seen again. But in 2004 the newly formed Tour of Britain was a great success, the Tour for 2005 is longer and already has commitment from the all important top teams including Lance Armstrong's Discovery Team. Fingers crossed we'll get back to the glory days. You can see details of the 2004 tour here.
Transport for London - cycling
Ken Livingston the Mayor of London has done wonders to encourage cycling in the capital. This is echoed by the information available from Transport for London. There is lots of useful information including a fantastic selection of 19 free maps covering the whole of Greater London. Get your maps online here.

The Bicycle Transportation Alliance
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance is a non-profit bicycle advocacy organization based in Portland, Oregon USA. The BTA creates healthy, sustainable communities by making bicycling safer, more convenient and more accessible. They also sell some great t-shirts with their bicycle wheel logo on the front and a slogan on the back. My one says - 'Work to Live, Live to Bike, Bike to Work'.

Excellent podcast and blog by San Francisco based cyclist Jon Winston.
Centre for Appropriate Transport Eugene, Oregon
The CENTER FOR APPROPRIATE TRANSPORT (CAT) is a non-profit organization committed to community involvement in manufacturing, using, and advocating sustainable modes of transportation. The first organization of its kind, the Center was founded in Eugene, Oregon in the fall of 1992.
Cycling Sisters
Cycling Sisters are a group based in Chicago to encourage sisters to get out there and turn those wheels. They also organise bicycle maintenance classes for women.
League of American Bicyclists
The League of American Bicyclists was founded as the League of American Wheelmen in 1880. Bicyclists, known then as "wheelmen", were challenged by rutted roads of gravel and dirt and faced antagonism from horsemen, wagon drivers, and pedestrians. Today they say their mission is, 'To promote bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation and work through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. Representing the interests of the nation's 57 million cyclists. With a current membership of 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 40,000 individuals and 600 affiliated organizations, the League works to bring better bicycling to your community.'
San Francisco Bicycling Coalition
"The mission of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is to transform San Francisco's streets and neighborhoods into more livable and safe places by promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation."
Xtracycle
This is a tricky one to describe - the Xtracycle Freeradical is an extended rear end that bolts on over the rear end of the bike extending the wheelbase to give extra carrying space and additional straight line stability. I'm not sure what it goes round corners like though! They describe themselves as 'Xtracycle is a manufacturer, educator, and vehicle for social change whose products enable an entirely new means of mobility. We promote our proprietary designs as boundary-pushing bicycles and soul-satisfying alternatives to automobile dependence. Profits support Xtracycle Access Foundation (see below), a non-profit organization that seeks to make our technology available to all who need it.'
XAccess (Xtracycle Access Foundation)
I think this is a really brilliant thing to do. Please check-out their site. 'XAccess (Xtracycle Access Foundation) makes load-bearing bicycles possible for people who need them most yet can least afford them. We help create economic opportunities by allowing people to move themselves, their goods, and their families, using human power.'

The Challenge
The Challenge is the ongoing record of Will Davies's annual attempt to cycle increasing distances and increasing metres climbed. In 2007, the third year he under took the challenge, he cycled 160,00 metres of vertical ascent (about 525,000 feet or one foot for every minute of the year). Not bad going! A fascinating story and some interesting links.
World Naked Bike Ride
In June 2004 the World Naked Bike Ride group (WNBR) was formed to co-ordinate a large international event involving many different activist groups across the World. The World's first international naked bike ride in 2004 was a collaboration between the WNBR group which rode on June 12th and Manifestación Ciclonudista in Spain which rode on June 19th. There are currently dozens of rides listed on the WNBR site for this year, why not check it out a join on to a ride near you.

This is the one I'm going for. For a company that designs and sells their own range of,excellent, trailers to make plans for a homemade trailer avalable on-line for anyone to download is quite something - hats off to them! See more pictures and details of my own trailer building efforts on my blog.
Community Bike Cart Design
A great site with loads of information about trailer design and construction. Trailer plans that can be downloaded and loads of pictures of trailers being built and used all over the world based on these designs. There are also more photographs on Aaron's Flickr page. The project goals are : design bicycle trailers that are strong and versatile enough to transport the cargo that you could in a car, but simple and inexpensive to build distribute the designs for trailers widely and free of charge keep the costs and complexity to a minimum; the trailer costs $30 USD in parts and can be built in 5 to 12 hours with only hand tools like a hacksaw and file and an oxy-acetylene torch decrease our dependence on automobiles by making affordable cargo bicycle trailers available as a viable alternative My only concern with this design is the brazing of galvanised tube. In the plans there are details of how to avaoid any problems, please read them fully before starting any brazing. A really inspiring site.
Free Bicycle Trailer Plans
These very detailed plans are for a single wheel trailer similar to the excellent BOB Yak trailer (see link below). There are CAD versions if you have CAD software or image files if you dont'. This could be my next project.
Gene's DIY Bicycle Trailer

Homemade Bike Trailer
A design for a homemade two wheel trailer using galvanised steel conduit similar to the Community Bike Cart Design above but without the need for facilities for welding. There's also a link to a larger cargo trailer based on the same design.
